Our Community Impact Project

Our "Why"

Mortgage Connection has always strived to help make the community better. We wanted to hear from you! The people that make this community great! We want to know what you think would help enhance our community. We selected the 4 most compelling ideas as finalists, but then turn to the public to help us decide who to award the $25,000 to. We are looking to invest in community projects like a playground, an ice rink, a program, a shelter or anything else that you feel would make our part of the world a little better.

Message From Our Founders

Breaking Free Foundation:

Breaking Free Foundation is developing ways to increase mental health support for children. Recognizing that traumatic childhood experiences impact future mental health as we become adults, our belief is that we need to act on behalf of our children in any and every way possible, providing tools they can learn and use from a young age. Music Heals:

Launched in 2013, Music Heals' mission is to increase access to music therapy in Canada. We do this by raising funds and awareness for underfunded music therapy initiatives across the country. Music Heals works in cooperation with accredited music therapists across the country to increase their impact in diverse facilities including Indigenous agencies, women's shelters, children's hospitals, palliative care homes, rehabilitation centres, schools, and more.
In Calgary, the PREP Program's ECS Program provides opportunities weekly music therapy opportunities for children who are currently in their community preschool to practice the same skills in a supported environment that promotes school readiness, provides individual services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and music therapy to accomplish goals in communication, fine and gross motor skill development, social and behavioural. Activities in each music therapy session include singing, playing instruments, song writing, musical games, and moving to music. These activities aim to promote social interaction, improve language and communication skills, improve gross and fine motor coordination, increase creative self-expression, increase sensory stimulation, and address academic and life skills.

Phoenix Education Foundation:

This grant would allow us, the Phoenix Foundation, to help many more of our students and their families in a greater capacity and have a larger impact in their lives. Alberta Education funds the academic side of our program, but sometimes our students need a hand up and to know that someone cares, sees and hears them. Instructional funds provided by the Government cannot be used for this purpose. And as such, the many acts of care and kindness provided by our school must be funded by outside sources. Many of our students come to us already broken and hurting. Our difference is that we care. We try to make a difference, help them heal, to get the resources and help that they need. Learn More

Small + Mighty:

The Small+Mighty Project collects donations throughout the year leading up to World Prematurity Day. In November, we gather volunteers (usually NICU graduate Moms who have received the gift bags previously) and we put the gift bags together for the families. We then go to each NICU site in Calgary the week leading up to World Prematurity Day to deliver the bags personally to each bedside while also capturing professional photos for the families to treasure.
